BAD+ Art Fair
Bordeaux + Art + Design SECOND EDITION
May 04, 2023 – May 07, 2023
HANGAR 14 – BORDEAUX
FRANCE

BAD+ Art Fair (Bordeaux + Art + Design) is the first international fair in the famed wine-growing region. The leading event establishes a new international art and design week in Bordeaux, and celebrates the links between art, design and ‘art de vivre’.

Founded by Jean-Daniel Compain, who previously oversaw FIAC and Paris Photo, and Beam (Bordeaux Events and More), BAD+ was founded around the idea that art and culture are an extraordinary engine for economic development and to address aesthetic, societal and economic issues of our time. The fair and its wider programme invites collectors and the public to discover major works in a unique setting.

BAD+ therefore brings together contemporary art, design, for all audiences, art lovers and collectors alike, French and foreign.’ – Jean-Daniel Compain, Founder and General Curator of BAD+ Art Fair

BAD+ Art Fair, a successful second edition
With the success of its 2nd edition, BAD+ Art Fair goes up in power and reinforces its inscription in the international calendar of the art and the design

The first large-scale fair celebrating the links between art, design and lifestyle, the flagship event of a new international art and design week in Bordeaux, BAD+ Art Fair continues its development with a second edition that ended on Sunday, May 7, 2023 and was a great success.

BAD+ 4a

« We are very happy to have gathered galleries of international scope, with an increase in the number of exhibitors and always a real artistic and institutional proposal. This shows that fairs are not only reserved for art capitals, and that we can propose a high quality artistic offer by making our regional anchorage and our unique positioning between art and art of living a strength. In the future, we want to welcome more and more international audiences, taking advantage of Bordeaux's influence as a global brand », say Jean-Daniel Compain and Adrien de Rochebouët.

Assembled by Jean-Daniel Compain, co-founder and general curator, and Adrien de Rochebouët, artistic advisor, the selection presented major and emerging galleries from 10 countries (Belgium, China, France, Ghana, Italy, Netherlands, Russia, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom), among them L'Oréal, the world's largest gallery, Loeve&Co, ETC, Rabouan Moussion, Christian Berst, Vincent Sator, Anne Sarah Bénichou, Dumonteil, Hadrien de Montferrand, Christophe Gaillard, Art'gentiers, Pigment Gallery, Joan Gaspar, Mia Karlova, Modernista, Galerie Revel, Soview...

BAD+ Art Fair also contributes to developing a first-rate ecosystem renewing the century-old links between art, design and lifestyle, with a satellite program deployed in major cultural institutions (CAPC, Musée des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux, FRAC Nouvelle Aquitaine...), satellite venues (Bleu Satellite, Les Glacières, L'Artichaut, La Fabrique Pola), as well as legendary wineries.

Thus, 10 emblematic wineries have joined BAD+ Art Fair this year, showing their art collections in the middle of the vineyards and cellars to collectors and the general public: Château Fleur de Lisse, with an original installation by Barthélémy Toguo curated by Constance Rubini of the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, but also Château Smith Haut Lafitte, Château Chasse-Spleen, Château d'Arsac, Château Lynch-Bages, Château Pape Clément, Château de Ferrand, Châteaux de Malengin & des Laurets, Château Dassault. The participating gallerists shared their feelings at the end of this edition of BAD+ Art Fair:

BAD+ Art Fair was co-founded by Jean-Daniel Compain and BEAM (Bordeaux Events and More), a company committed to the influence and attractiveness of the territory and the Bordeaux brand. BAD+ Art Fair 2023 will return in spring 2024 for its 3rd edition.

A selection of contemporary collectible design

Corner of Mia Karlova Galerie booth at BAD+ 2023 in Bordeaux featuring first ever 'Dolly' paper chair by Vadim Kibardin made in colour.

BAD+ 3a

Working predominantly with paper and cardboard waste as a sculptural medium, Kibardin delves into a conscious and responsible approach to consumption. With his Paper collection, Vadim offers his contribution towards achieving a circular economy, creating sculptural, highly aesthetic and fully functional furniture out of cardboard boxes. As any other work by Kibardin the chair is an object on the edge of art and design, an incredibly labour intensive sculpture with organic fluidity achieved by using cardboard.

The BAD+ Art Fair will take place on 5 days from Wednesday, 22. May to Sunday, 26. May 2024 in Bordeaux.
